We are pleased to offer a pediatric music therapy internship at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. Interns will spend time at each hospital and encounter a broad spectrum of patients.

At Orlando Health Arnold Palmer, interns will work on different units including hematology/oncology, outpatient nephrology, cardiac intensive care, orthopedic/neurology, intensive care, a special care step-down unit, and general acute inpatients.

Rotations at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer will include work with infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and women in the antepartum intensive care units. Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with multiple disciplines including rehabilitation therapy (speech, occupational and physical therapy), nursing, physicians, child life specialists, psychologists, chaplains and social workers.

Entry-level Requirements

Students are expected to demonstrate functional competencies with keyboard, guitar, voice, percussion and improvisation prior to starting the internship. Practicum experience in a medical setting is preferred, but this is not required. Students should have an awareness of common music therapy interventions in the NICU and in pediatrics, and be open to diverse training experiences. Students will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of populations and ages. Within the application, students will need to have their academic director send a letter of eligibility for the internship.

Application Process

The music therapy internship is 6 months long with start dates in July and January. The application deadline is July 1st for the January start date and January 1st for the July start date. After receiving a completed application, you will be contacted about setting up an in-person or Skype interview, depending on your location. Interns will be required to complete a TB test, a fingerprint background check and required vaccinations prior to starting the internship. The intern will be responsible for the cost of those items. Please download the Music Therapy Internship Application below and follow its directions to apply. For questions, please contact us at (321) 841-1479.
