The Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome Program provides intensive outpatient treatment to help children and teens overcome pain that has not responded to traditional therapy, medical management and intensive procedures.
The program utilizes a research-based approach and a patient-first philosophy to bring hope and healing to children and families dealing with a pain diagnosis, including amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome or primary juvenile fibromyalgia.

What to Expect at the AMPS Intensive Program
To be seen by our team, your child will first need a referral from their pediatrician or another primary care provider. (Most insurance plans require a referral to be seen by a specialty provider). Once we have the referral, we will contact you to set up your child’s initial appointment with us. Our patients typically meet the following criteria:
- Diagnosis of amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome or primary juvenile fibromyalgia which contribute to disability
- Decreased independence affecting quality of daily life to include participation in daily activities of life, attending school, independent mobility, inability to participate in sports or leisure activities
- Persistent impairment following outpatient physical and occupational therapy
During your first visit at the AMPS Intensive Program you and your child will meet with our specialty team.
Once assessed at the initial visit, our team will work together to formulate a customized recommended care plan for your child. Depending on our assessment of your child – and the goals we work with your family to set – he or she will be cared for by a specialized combination of healthcare professionals and services. We will advise your family of these recommendations and we will work with you to move forward with any recommended care.
Our comprehensive program is designed to restore function and improve pain. Patients participate four hours daily for up to eight weeks. Our multi-disciplinary team meets at least weekly to discuss progress towards goals, adjust your child’s program, and create strategies that you and your child can continue after completing the program.
Our team collaborates with your child and family to create meaningful goals based on your child’s current functional status, specific pain diagnosis and other personalized factors. We work closely with your child to help them develop a positive outlook and self-image, learn strategies to self-manage pain and maximize function, strength and endurance to get back to activities of daily living - participate in school, sports and activities that build connections with family and friends. Before completing the program, we ensure you and your child have a program in place to keep your child function at their best.
Published research demonstrates that multi-disciplinary pain management including intensive physical and occupational therapy deliver greater success than any other types of treatment for chronic pain. Our patients achieve a significant reduction in functional disability and demonstrate improved engagement in daily activities including hobbies and sports.
