Sheryl Esmond, MMS, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant with Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Neurosurgery, part of Lean Pediatric Neuroscience Center of Excellence. She manages inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical patients. She also assists in the operating room and cares for patients in intensive care, neonatal intensive care and those in step down and medical floor units.

The Physician Assistant’s Role

As a board-certified physician assistant, Sheryl plays a vital role in diagnosis, treatment and medical management of children who have pediatric neurosurgery. Her responsibilities are integral to the well-being and surgical recovery of each child in her care. She performs physical exams, diagnoses illnesses, develops treatment plans, orders and interprets lab tests, provides patient education and preventative health care counseling, and prescribes medications. She also assists in the operating room and cares for patients in intensive care, neonatal intensive care, and those in step down and medical floor units.

Sheryl is a medical professional licensed by the State of Florida to practice medicine with the supervision of a physician. Physician assistants provide many medical services that traditionally have been performed by physicians.

About Sheryl Esmond

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Central Florida, Sheryl earned a master’s of medical science in physician assistant studies from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.

She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Florida Academy of Physician Assistants.

Sheryl volunteers extensively and in the past few years has participated in medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, shared her medical knowledge and skills at community health events, and provided food for the homeless community in downtown Orlando.
