Dr. Jerome Gene Chen is a double-board-certified pediatric critical care physician with Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. He cares for seriously ill infants and children, including those with injuries from traumatic accidents, respiratory failure, septic shock, neurological emergencies and after complex surgeries. His areas of expertise include:

  • Diagnosing acute and life-threatening illnesses
  • Stabilizing critically ill patients
  • Sepsis
  • Respiratory failure
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Advanced airway management, including ventilators
  • Procedural sedation

Dr. Chen also is the program director for the Orlando Health Pediatric Residency and associate program director for the Orlando Health Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer. He has a special interest in medical education and teaching evidence-based medicine.

Dr. Chen’s Training

Dr. Chen earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in clinical research at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, graduating magna cum laude. He received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Dr. Chen completed his pediatric residency at the Washington University School of Medicine / St. Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri, where he was honored with the James P. Keating, MD, Outstanding Resident Award. Dr. Chen completed his fellowship in pediatric critical care at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

About Dr. Chen

Dr. Chen is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Pediatrics and Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Chen has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on many research projects related to pediatric critical care and medical education. He has presented at professional conferences, and his work has been published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Chen also serves as a peer reviewer for numerous medical journals.

As an associate professor of pediatrics, he is involved in teaching medical students at the Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee and the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando.

Outside of work, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with family, listening to music and exercising.
