Robotic urology surgery is a minimally invasive option that allows doctors to make smaller “keyhole size” incisions, resulting in less pain, faster healing and a quicker recovery to return to normal activity.
At Orlando Health Arnold Palmer for Children Urology Center we are recognized as leaders in performing robotic urology surgery in Central Florida, using the most advanced technology, while focusing on the unique needs of each young patient.
Robotic surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery utilizing one of the most advanced surgical systems available, the da Vinci® Surgical System. This revolutionary technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures using miniaturized instruments that bend and rotate more than the human wrist.
The system also uses high-definition cameras that provide magnified 3D views of the surgical area. This allows the surgeon to operate with just a few small incisions and unmatched precision.
Compared to conventional surgery which uses a larger incision, or other minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy, robotic surgery offers our smallest patients significant benefits, including:
Repair an abnormally positioned ureter (the tube that connects the bladder to the kidneys) to prevent urine from backing up into the kidney.
Repair an obstruction in the ureteropelvic junction (where the kidney and ureter connect), allowing urine to drain from the kidney to the bladder.
Removes a kidney that is damaged, diseased or not functioning.
Removes a tumor or diseased tissue from a kidney, while preserving healthy kidney tissue.
Creates a catheterizable channel from the bladder to the outside of the body to perform intermittent bladder emptying.
Enlarges a small capacity bladder.
Create a catheterizable channel between the large intestine and abdominal wall. A small catheter is intermittently inserted to allow antegrade enema evacuation of the bowels. The procedure is helpful for children with neurogenic bowels and severe constipation or fecal incontinence.
Removes the urachus (persistent remnant between the bladder and belly button).
Our surgeons perform robotic urology procedures at our connecting partner hospital, Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies.
