Clinical Social Work and Mental Health Counseling Internship Program

The Clinical Social Work and Mental Health Counseling Internship Program at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies provides valuable hands-on experience to second-year students pursuing a master of social work (MSW) or a master of arts (MA) in counseling at one of the following universities:

  • Florida State University
  • Rollins College
  • Stetson University
  • University of Central Florida
  • University of Florida

Our interns receive clinical training from the Care Management team at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer, working closely with a primary clinical supervisor in one of many medical specialties that include:

  • Acute pediatrics
  • Cardiovascular
  • Critical care pediatrics
  • Emergency Department and Level 1 Trauma Center
  • High-risk obstetric clinic
  • Mother/infant care
  • Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Oncology
  • Renal dialysis

Interns will be challenged to continuously learn and grow as they assume more responsibility and autonomy at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer. Interns receive weekly individual and group supervision as well as continuing education opportunities. In addition to their assigned areas, interns have the opportunity to precept with other department clinicians, allowing them to expand the scope of their experience, deepen their clinical skills, and interact with a multidisciplinary team of professionals.

Interns are valued members of the department. After their time with Orlando Health, they will have gained invaluable skills and a better understanding of the complexities and challenges of a healthcare clinical social worker and/or mental health counselor.
