Julia Young is a licensed mental health counselor and certified child life specialist with Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Pediatric Palliative Care. As a palliative care counselor, she helps children and their families navigate through their medical journey. That often includes:
- Providing decision-making resources
- Informing patients about diagnoses and procedures
- Helping children process medical information
- Offering support and guidance
- Bereavement care
She has experience working with children in acute pediatrics, the newborn intensive care unit and emergency department to help them cope and normalize the hospital environment.
Julia’s Training
Julia earned her master of arts in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where she also received her play therapy certificate. She also has a master of science degree in human development and family science from the University of Georgia in Athens. While there, Julia spent two years as a graduate teaching assistant.
She gained clinical training experience at several facilities, including The Healing Tree and Orange County Youth Center, both in Orlando, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Julia is a member of the Association for Play Therapy, the American Counseling Association, the Florida Association of Child Life Professionals and the Association of Child Life Professionals. She has delivered presentations on customized care for children, understanding behaviors indicative of mental health concerns and preparing children to enter the foster care system.
