Arnold Palmer Hospital Named One of the Best Children’s Hospitals

U.S. News & World Report Unveils 2016-17 Rankings

Orlando, Florida (June 22, 2016) - U.S. News & World Report has ranked Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in the new 2016-17 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. It is the only hospital in Orlando to be ranked.

The hospital was ranked among the Best Children’s Hospitals in five pediatric specialties:

  • #48 in cardiology and heart surgery
  • #45 in diabetes and endocrinology
  • #45 in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery
  • #39 in orthopedics
  • #31 in urology

The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News’s top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology. Based on a combination of clinical data and reputation surveys of pediatric specialists, 78 hospitals ranked in at least one specialty.

The rankings open the door to an array of detailed information about each hospital’s performance. Most of the scoring relied on patient outcomes and care-related resources. U.S. News garnered clinical data from a detailed questionnaire sent to 183 pediatric hospitals. Results from three years of annual surveys of pediatric specialists contributed 15 percent of a hospital's score. Across all 10 specialties, about 11,000 pediatric specialists were asked in 2016 to name up to 10 hospitals, without regard to price or location, that they consider the best in their specialty for children with serious or difficult problems. More than 2,700 physicians responded. Their responses were combined with those from similar surveys in 2014 and 2015.

Survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, procedure volume and much more can be viewed on http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/pediatric-rankings and will be published in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2016” guidebook, which will be available September 1.
