Arnold Palmer Hospital Receives Motorized Car for Young Rehab Patients

March 06, 2017

Orlando, FL (March 6, 2017) – The University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Go Baby Go! program has donated a motorized miniature car to the outpatient rehabilitation facility at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The car is decorated as Lightning McQueen, a character from the Disney movie “Cars,” and will be used in therapy sessions as well as cause and effect training within the hospital’s rehabilitation program.

Go Baby Go! is a program that specializes in building motorized child-sized cars to enhance the mobility of children with physical limitations such as motor impairments and disabilities. The program focuses on designing and building cars that are modified to fit an individual child’s special needs. By assisting with their independent movement, the cars enable children to explore and interact with their environment while socializing with others, an important factor for their development.

“We’re so grateful for this special gift from the UCF Go Baby Go! program,” said Katherine Kinder, supervisor of rehabilitation services at Arnold Palmer Hospital. “Independent mobility is crucial to a child’s social development, and this car will give many children the opportunity to explore their world in new ways during therapy sessions.”

The car was delivered to Arnold Palmer Hospital’s outpatient rehabilitation center, where patients will have the opportunity to test drive it. Parents are encouraged to register their child with the Go Baby Go! program to receive a car for their own use at home. For more information about the program, visit www.ucfgobabygo.org.
