Dr. Stefano Cardin is a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Center for Orthopedics. His specialties include:

  • Pediatric trauma and fracture care
  • Complex trauma, hip and spine disorders
  • Idiopathic, neuromuscular and syndromic scoliosis
  • Kyphosis and other spine disorders
  • Developmental dysplasia of the hip
  • Femoroacetabular impingement
  • Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease
  • Slipped capital femoral epiphysis
  • Avascular necrosis of the hip
  • Cerebral palsy hip disorders
  • Complex young adult hip preservation techniques, including periacetabular osteotomy

Dr. Cardin takes a patient-centered, compassionate and holistic approach, using evidence-based practices, empowering patients through education and maintaining open communication and accessibility. His experiences as an immigrant from Ecuador, former collegiate soccer player and father help him to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds, empathize with their physical and emotional challenges, and provide sensitive pediatric orthopedic care.

Dr. Cardin’s Training

Dr. Cardin received his bachelor’s degree in molecular cell biology at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he graduated magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree at the University of South Carolina in Greenville, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Society. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Orlando Health, during which he earned multiple research symposium first place awards. He completed his fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which is affiliated with the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

About Dr. Cardin

Dr. Cardin's professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He serves on several POSNA committees and received the POSNA 2024 Roshen N. Irani Research Training Grant for his work on pediatric elbow fractures.

Dr. Cardin has written several research manuscripts and book chapters and contributed to peer-reviewed publications on topics including scoliosis, hip preservation, fractures and surgical techniques.

He gives back to the community by offering medical care at sporting events such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational and by participating in American Heart Association programs. Dr. Cardin feels strongly about global health initiatives and volunteers abroad. 

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, soccer, cooking and traveling. Dr. Cardin is fluent in English and Spanish.
