Dr. Mary Farrell is a double-board-certified pediatrician and physician in chief with Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. She cares for seriously ill infants and children, including those with injuries from traumatic accidents, respiratory failure, septic shock, neurological emergencies and after complex surgeries. Her areas of expertise include:

  • Diagnosing acute and life-threatening illnesses
  • Stabilizing critically ill patients
  • Sepsis
  • Respiratory failure
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Advanced airway management, including ventilators
  • Procedural sedation

Dr. Farrell joined Orlando Health Arnold Palmer in 1990 as a member of the pediatric critical care team. She has served as chief of staff of Orlando Health, chair of the department of pediatrics and medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer.

Dr. Farrell believes family-centered care gives her pediatric patients the best support for healing.

Dr. Farrell’s Training

Dr. Farrell received her undergraduate and medical degrees from University College in Dublin, Ireland. She completed a residency in internal medicine and rheumatology at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. After moving to the United States, Dr. Farrell completed a pediatric residency at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

About Dr. Farrell

Dr. Farrell is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Farrell’s research covers pediatric neurological disorders, pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest, pediatric brain death and cystic fibrosis and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. She also has delivered presentations about procedural sedation.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, running, cooking, reading and sewing.
