Ololade Akintoye, MD, is a physician with The Heart Center at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, and her clinical interests include perinatal/neonatal cardiology and noninvasive imaging.

Perinatal/Neonatal Cardiology

As a fellowship-trained and board-certified perinatal/neonatal cardiologist, Dr. Akintoye understands the very special needs of high-risk fetuses and premature and full-term newborns, as well as those already diagnosed with cardiac conditions and their mothers. She cares for babies with congenital heart defects, prenatal heart failure, irregular heart rhythms and more. Along with a team of pediatric cardiology specialists and others, she provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for these littlest patients.

For expectant mothers with health conditions such as diabetes and lupus that may affect their baby’s heart development, she provides careful monitoring and appropriate treatment for mother and baby throughout pregnancy and childbirth.

What is an Echocardiogram?

One of the most valuable diagnostic and monitoring procedures Dr. Akintoye uses is an echocardiogram, also known as an ultrasound. This noninvasive procedure uses sound waves to produce images of baby’s heart and enables Dr. Akintoye to see how the valves and muscles of the heart are functioning and determine if there are heart defects.

Dr. Akintoye’s Training

Dr. Akintoye earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Georgia in Athens, graduating with honors. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Most recently, she completed training in advanced cardiovascular noninvasive imaging and fetal cardiology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta/Emory University School of Medicine.

About Dr. Akintoye

Dr. Akintoye has participated in research concerning hypertension in children and adolescents, cardiac transplantation in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Cardiology, and American Society of Echocardiography.
