Kelly Harley, MSN, FNP-C, RN, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Neurosurgery, part of the Leon Pediatric Neuroscience Center of Excellence. She is a skilled medical professional with a background in neurology and neurosurgery and managing the care of inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical patients. She also assists in the operating room and cares for patients in intensive care, neonatal intensive care and those in step down and medical floor units.
The Family Nurse Practitioner’s Role
As a board-certified family nurse practitioner, Kelly plays an important role in diagnosis, treatment and medical management of children who have pediatric neurosurgery. Her responsibilities are integral to the well-being and surgical recovery of each child in her care. She performs physical exams, diagnoses illnesses, develops treatment plans, orders and interprets lab tests, provides patient education and preventative health care counseling, and prescribes medications. She also assists in the operating room and cares for patients in intensive care, neonatal intensive care, and those in step down and medical floor units.
Kelly is a medical professional licensed by the State of Florida with additional board certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, which enables her to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. Family nurse practitioners provide many medical services traditionally performed by physicians.
About Kelly Harley
After graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from South University in Savannah, Georgia, Kelly earned a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., again graduating cum laude.
She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing. Additionally, she often donates her time to community organizations and events such as health screenings, wellness weeks and Meals on Wheels.
