Preserving Future Hip Health
No matter your child’s hip condition, it’s important to find the best care possible. For 10 years, the Hip Preservation and Pediatric Hip Programs at Arnold Palmer Hospital have been treating children with complex hip issues. We offer surgical procedures to prevent total hip joint replacement, periacetabular osteotomies (hip preservation for hip dysplasia), arthroscopies and more.
In addition, our program is the first in Central Florida to treat only pediatric patients. You and your child will have access to some of the brightest minds in the field, as we are home to the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.
Caring for Multiple Conditions
Your child will receive care from an experienced team that is trained in treating complex hip conditions and disorders in pediatric patients. Some of these conditions include:
- Developmental hip dislocation: A dislocated hip occurs when the ball joint is moved out of its normal position from the hip socket. It can be corrected through surgery.
- Hip dysplasia: Hip dysplasia occurs when the ball and socket joints of your child’s hip don’t fit or align correctly. It can be treated surgically or with brace treatment.
- Legg-Calve-Perthes disease: This condition occurs when there is an interruption of blood flow to the hip. This can impair normal hip growth that can lead to deformity. We are able to preserve the bone and encourage growth through surgery.
- Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE): SCFE usually happens during preteen and teen growth spurts. In this condition, the ball of the hip slips from the femur bone creating pain and hip deformity. Surgery is needed to prevent further displacement.
