Clinical Trials

  • A Phase III Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo Controlled, Multi-C

To determine if intravenous (i.v.) L-citrulline delivery given perioperatively reduces clinical sequelae of acute cardiopulmonary bypassinduced lung injury in pediatric subjects undergoing repair of congenital heart defects as evidenced by the reduction of postoperative need for mechanical ventilation and inotrope therapy.

  • Optimal Management of LVOTO

1). Assemble a multi-institutional inception cohort of infants with critical LVOTO undergoing all currently available and future treatment strategies. 2). Determine morphologic correlates of physiology prior to intervention in critical left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. 3). Identify risk factors that affect outcomes. 4). Determine the value of emerging management strategies. 5). Assess late outcomes including functional health status, quality of life, developmental outcomes, and identification of electrophysiological and other complications.

  • N/A

Compare absolute VE measurements with absolute standard measurements of clotting and coagulation during CPB.

  • N/A

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) sponsors this national database of congenital heart surgery. Participating centers submit information from their individual databases every 6 months. This information is “harvested” and reported back to individual participating sites in a de-identified report. This information is used for ongoing quality assurance and gives us the ability to compare our results to all other participating centers.

  • N/A

To improve our understanding and add to the body of knowledge on the management schemes and outcomes of patients undergoing DHCA and SCP.

  • Determining the Natural and Unnatural History of AAOCA

Our overall purpose is to develop and maintain an ongoing comprehensive multi-institutional registry comprised of clinical information about subjects who have been evaluated and/or followed at any of the participating CHSS institutions.

  • Unbalanced Atrioventricular Septal Defect Study

To improve survival among patients with atrioventricular septal defects (AVSD) by further characterizing that portion of the disease spectrum customarily referred to as unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect (uAVSD) and evaluating the relationships between patient and procedural factors and outcomes.

  • Standardized Assessments of Emotional Intelligence in CHD

Assessing the emotional intelligence quotient of pediatric CHD patients to improve our understanding and add to the body of knowledge of developmental delay in pediatric CHD patients.

  • Improving Care of Children with Complex Congenital Heart Disease

The purpose of this initiative, specifically, is to improve care and outcomes for infants with HLHS by: 1) expanding the established NPC-QIC national registry to gather clinical care process, outcome, and developmental data on infants with HLHS between diagnosis and 12 months of age, 2) improving implementation of consensus standards, tested by teams, into everyday practice across pediatric cardiology centers, and 3) engaging parents as partners in improving care and outcomes.

  • Data Registry for Cardiac Catheterization Procedures

    1. To determine the incidence of serious adverse events in cardiac catheterization procedures in the current era utilizing a multi-centered registry. 2. To validate a method of risk stratification for cardiac catheterization. 3. To mathematically model adverse event occurrence in quality assurance assessments.
